The Smart City of tomorrow benefits from the increasing intelligence of our infrastructure. SMIGHT and PTV Group have launched a development initiative that optimizes urban traffic in real time: The traffic management system SMIGHT Traffic joins its strength in with PTV’s leading software for real-time optimization of traffic flows. With the new solution, cities and municipalities can analyze traffic flow, plan ahead and thus specifically reduce traffic load.
More and more people work and live in big cities. Along with the number of inhabitants, the requirements on the infrastructure of smart cities also grow. SMIGHT, a micro business unit of EnBW addresses these with its hard- and software-based IoT solutions.
Using smart sensor technology, SMIGHT Traffic counts and analyzes the various road users and transmits the data to the IoT platform SMIGHT IQ, where the information is mapped as a real-time simulation and enables forward-looking analysis of potential traffic events. City and traffic planners can thus not only evaluate road traffic, but thanks to a broader data basis also control it more effectively. This allows already collected historical data to be included in the software PTV Visum for strategic traffic planning and modelling. In addition, dynamic traffic information that is transmitted in real time can be fed into the operational traffic management system PTV Optima.
“We ensure a lower traffic load and a better quality of life,” explains Oliver Deuschle, head of SMIGHT. Whether by car, bus or two-wheeler – the mobility options are diverse and pose new challenges for traffic planners in cities and municipalities.” The combination of PTV and SMIGHT’s solutions shows us disruptions in road traffic even before they occur. Smart sensor technology, secure data processing and real-time simulation enable cities and municipalities to optimise traffic flow at an early stage,” says Peter Möhl of PTV.
